Question: how many chickens can this hold
Answer: Well, Steve, how big are the chickens? Are they in there all day long or do they also free range some? If you are talking about full grown large fowl chickens that know each other and like each other, but have to spend all their time in the tractor then I'd say 3. Bantams five or so. My birds get out and rove around for much of every day and so I have 5 living in it. However, I added a second roosting bar, higher and perpendicular to the original. The height of this coop makes that possible.

Question: Can this house 5 chickens? 3 browns 1 barred rock and a rooster?

Question: What is the square footage?
Answer: Check the dimensions on the description. It says Overall dimensions: 97 5/8"L x 38 3/8"W x 46 1/4"H. We raised 6 chicks until they were about 3 months old indoors, then transferred them to this tractor. It was comfortable for all 6 until they reached maturity, then it was too cramped and we built a big coop. It's a good option for permanent housing if you're just going to have a few hens (3-4 comfortably). You will need to do some maintenance on the tractor as it weathers (just to tack some boards back in place - temp swings make it swell and contract a little). Design and function of this tractor are good.
